Hi Sandy,

I wanted to give you an update on Oscar.  He is doing wonderful!  He has adapted beautifully to having the baby around.  He is so good with her and watches over her.  He still gets more attention than she does when we go for walks.  People always comment on how beautiful he is and how well-behaved and nice he is.  He walks so nicely next to the stroller (better with than without actually!)  The baby loves him.  She thinks he is hysterical and calls his name constantly (her first and only word so far!)

Hi Sandy,

I wanted to give you an update on Oscar.  He is doing very well.  He has a new baby sister (born in Sept.), and he is really good with her.  He always wants to be near her and checks on her first thing when he comes home from a walk.  He makes sure we tend to her when she cries.  Her toys are off limits and he leaves them alone, but he does steal a kiss from her whenever he can.  He is jealous of the attention she gets even though he gets just as much.  In fact, when we go for walks, people are so enthralled by him, they usually don't even notice there's a baby with us!  He deals with his jealously well.  He simply lays by whoever has the baby and puts his head on their lap, just in case they forgot he was there.  He is such a snuggly puppy, we love him!

Hi Sandy,

Oscar is doing great, in fact, he is going to be a big brother!  Steve and I are expecting a baby in September.

We recently fenced in our yard and Oscar just loves it, especially the mud after it rains!  He enjoys digging muddy holes and then getting rinsed off with the hose.  (Although he doesn't quite understand why we don't readily welcome him into the house all caked in mud.)  As long as it is not too hot, he wants to be outside.  He hates the heat and we have to bribe him to go out to 'go' if it is really hot.

We have ended our crate training.  About 2 months ago, we started to leave him out if we were going to be gone a short time and gradually worked him up to a full work day.  He was crate free in less than a week!  He does absolutely nothing when we are not home.  Everything is exactly the way we left it.  We don't even have to worry about putting away shoes.  The only thing he will get if left out is tissues, his most favorite snack.  We are very proud of him for being able to be completely trusted by 10 months old.

He is very good will adults, we are still working on curbing the jumping up (only for men.)  This is getting much better.  He loves little kids and is very gentle with them, never jumping up.  He also loves other dogs, but can't understand why some dogs don't like him.  His trainer brags about him all the time and says that he is her 'poster student.'

Overall, he is very well-mannered and very funny and goofy.  He is also very smart.  He asks for everything he needs.  If he is hot and wants the fan on, he will stand in front of it and bark.  He does the same with water, food, going out, ice cubes, etc.  All of our friends and family love the fact that he looks out the front window and watches the kids play or people walking down the street.  He never barks, just rests his head on the windowsill.  It is very cute.

He is a much loved member of our family.  Oscar is definitely more popular than we are.  Everyone comes over to see him now.  We absolutely adore him!  He is wonderful dog!

Hello Taylors,

We just wanted to give you an update on Oscar.  He is doing wonderful.  He has finished puppy class and is now halfway through the intermediate class.  The trainer just adores him.

He did well throughout the holidays.  He paid no attention to the Christmas tree or any of the decorations.  He was polite to our company, too.  He got some new toys for Christmas and has made up his own game of chase.  He places one paw on the toy and slides around the room on it while attempting to catch it at the same time.  It is very entertaining, especially for guests.

He is now 6 months old and weighs 83 lbs.  He is tall enough to "sit" on the couch (even though he is not allowed on the furniture).  He will sit his behind on the couch while keeping his front paws on the floor, or he will put just one cheek up on the couch and sit sideways.  It's so funny.

He is always right behind us.  He leans on us while cooking or doing dishes.  When one of us is in the basement, he lays at the top of the steps and waits for us to come up.  We don't have to worry about him getting into much because he is either leaning on us or sleeping in his crate.  He is so adorable and funny.  We just love him!

Happy New Year,

Jess & Steve
