Hi Sandy!
Bettis is doing very well and I can't imagine life without him now. He is getting big, at his 5-month
check-up he was 80 pounds. I'm not sure exactly how tall he is because when I try to measure him, he just
wants to bite the measuring tape and won't hold still long enough for me to read it. But despite his size,
he's just a big baby and wants attention and love... the closer he can be to us, the happier he is.
He's been fully house trained for a couple of months now and we are now able to leave him at home alone, not crated,
and apparently all he is does is lie on the couch until we come back. He's such a good boy! We do crate
him at night and he does lay in his crate on his own here and there. He never ended up taking a swim in our
pool. I tried to coax him in at the end of the summer, but he really had no interest and would only sniff
at the edge. Of course, he also does not like to be bathed and we've only done that outside, so far,
using the hose. But he does like the rain, and the mud, hence the need for a bath!
We did take him to
the beach a couple of weeks ago and although he wouldn't go in the water, he enjoyed running away from the waves
and trying to eat the dead horseshoe crabs, yuck.
I finished training with him last night, which has helped
greatly, although I need to keep working with him on some commands.&nsp; He's very smart, I just have to spend
the time working with him!
I can't begin to tell you the number of compliments we get about Bettis.
So many people have stopped when we're out walking and comment on how handsome he is and most seem to know
immediately that he's a mastiff and a puppy, despite his size. He loves other dogs and just wants to play,
although they are not all interested in him! Our neighbors have a 5-year old Golden with boundless energy
who runs rings around Bettis. Bettis tries to keep up with him and then he just lays down and lets
his friend run around him and bark and lick his face. It's really very cute!
Hopefully we'll be able to attend the reunion in October, Bettis would love it, I'm sure.
Enjoy the photos
and hope to see you soon!
Kelli
